The Ultimate Reset - My thoughts after the first 2 days

There’s been a lot of hype recently about cleansing, detoxing, clean eating and vegan diets. Beachbody recently came out with the Ultimate Reset, which is a 21 day program which gradually restores your body to it’s natural state by eating clean, taking in whole food supplements that are amazingly good for you and slowly detoxing to a vegan diet within three weeks.  I’m on Day 2 and here is an overview of my experience so far.

The food is yummy!  Day 1 breakfast was scrambled eggs, toast and steamed kale.  Lunch was a microgreen salad loaded with veggies, herbs, & a sprinkle of roasted sunflower seeds and cashews.  Dinner in the guidebook was grilled salmon with steamed asparagus and boiled potatoes, but since I’m a vegetarian, I subbed grilled tempeh for the salmon (my 1st time making this and it turned out great!).  Day 2 has consisted of oatmeal with blueberries, another microgreen salad and dinner was a corn tortilla with black beans and rice, salsa, guacamole and corn (my favorite meal so far).   Overall, I am pleased with the food and I am learning to cook, which is nice!

The supplements are fine (2 of them you mix with water and can’t even taste, one is in capsule form), except for the alkalinize!  I set an alarm on my phone so I remember what to take when.  Beachbody has also made a handy little card and carry around bag to make it easy for when you are on the go.  The alkalinize tastes like….well, grass mixed with salt water, in my opinion.  The first day I made it with a cup of water and could barely choke it down.  I then heard from some fellow Facebook friends that it goes down much easier in a shot and yes, that is true!  I highly recommend taking it as a shot (you can shake it with water in an empty medicine bottle) and then sucking on a lemon to get rid of the aftertaste.  Some people apparently like the taste, but not me!

I’m on the second night and my biggest struggle so far has been having a constant headache and feeling extra tired.  Some people apparently experience headaches in the first few days and some don’t based on the changes that are happening in your body.  I am used to having a cup of coffee every morning and not having it has been a little rough.  My whole routine has changed temporarily.  Normally on most days I have a cup of coffee, breakfast, wait a little while, workout, have my shakeology and I consistently eat every 2-3 hours.  On the cleanse you do not work out (you can walk, stretch and do light yoga, but nothing intense), you do not have caffeine and you have 3 set meals a day with lots of water.  I also usually make very quick meals, so taking the time out to cook so much has been an adjustment, but I am also learning to cook in the healthiest way possible, which is good for me.  My mood has been more down than usual, which tends to happen when starting a cleanse.  From everyone I’ve talked to and all that I’ve read, it seems like the first week (especially the first 5 days), are the hardest part.

The support you get while going through the cleanse is wonderful.  There are tons of people going through it at the same time and there are Facebook groups devoted to each week of the cleanse.  Everyone has been so supportive to each other!

Two days down, nineteen to go!  I’m excited to see how I feel at the end of this. :)

Banana “Ice Cream”

I’ve read several places that you can take frozen bananas, put them in a food processor and have a delicious dessert.  I was craving some sweetness and decided to try this and OMG, IT WAS SO GOOD!!!!  The bananas seriously take on the texture of soft serve ice cream.  They are so creamy, it tastes like you are really having banana flavored ice cream. I love my bananas and this is a treat I will be making again and again.

To make:

  • Freeze 2-3 bananas
  • Put frozen bananas in a food processor
  • Turn the food processor on & let it run for 3 or 4 minutes, stop in between to scrape down any bananas that get stuck on the side
  • The bananas should be creamy, smooth and have a soft serve consistency

YUMMY!  ENJOY!!
